EZA SEMINAR Employment strategy in Europe: How can EUROPE 2020 strategy be implemented in the Baltic States? IN OCTOBER 27-28, 2011
European Center for Worker’s Questions (EZA) collaborating with Latvian Christian Academy held an international educational seminar „Employment strategy in Europe: How can EUROPE 2020 strategy be implemented in the Baltic States?” It was developed in a challenging and mind-provoking discussion based on penetrating presentations by N.Klein from EZA, A.Altosaar from ETÖK, Estonia, P.Krīgers, Secretary General of Latvian Free Trade Unions Association, J.Stalidzāne, Chairwoman of the trade union Energija, I.Mikiško, Chairwoman of Education and Science Workers trade union, D.Dolace, LChrA, I.Indāns, political analyst, M.Saukāns, Chairman of the RBSSKALS building company, Chairman of the trade union of book making industry E.Rutkovskis, and others. A field trip to the international airport „Rīga” was organized.

DAY OF SOCIAL DIALOGUE WITH BALTIC EXPERTS IN THE LCHRA IN NOVEMBER 9, 2010
The seminar was held with financial support of European Commission and it had twofold goals: to analyze the new Latvian Governments Declaration from the perspective of Lisabon strategy and to discuss the job policy in Europe and the place of Latvia in it. Seminar participants welcomed the former Eurocomisar Mr Partho Pronk curator of Latvia when it was accepted as the EU member state. Among participants of the seminar were political analyst Mr Ivars Indāns (Latvian University) Secretary general of Latvian Free Trade Unions Association Mr Pēteris Krīgers, representative of Lithuanian Labor Federation Mrs Inga Preidiene, Mr Aimar Altosaar from ETOK, Estonia, key persons of several Latvian trade unions - chairwoman of the trade union Energy Mrs Jevgēņija Stalidzāne, chairman of the Trade Union of Agriculture and Food Industry Workers Mr Vladimirs Sokolovs, chairwoman of the Nursing and Health Care Personnel Trade Union Mrs Ruta Vīksna, chairwoman of the Medical Care Workers trade union Mrs Daina Brūvele. Discussion was moderated by chairman of the Trade Union of the Book Publishing Workers Mr Egils Rutkovskis. Both politicians, representatives of trade unions and students of the caritative social work took part in discussions. The seminar was held in friendly atmosphere when answers to the key question: how to improve job policy in Latvia? were sought for.
Research is the priority at LChrA. Its strategic aim: applied research with interdisciplinary approach, using methodology of integrative theology, strengthening the quality of education at the Academy and integrating its results into development of social and human capital of the Latvian State. LChrA is purposefully established itself as a research centre by attracting highly qualified academic staff, scientists and field experts. Integration of theology as the fundament for interdisciplinary approach is inherent to academic work and research. LChrA is open to world-wide cooperation in research and education for sustainable value oriented knowledge based society.
THEORETICAL SEMINAR "EUROPEAN GUIDELINES IN SOCIAL POLICY" Theoretical seminar and discussion on key issues in European social policy relative to Christianity was held in March 15, 2010. It was managed and led by Valters Dolacis.
International conference - Round table on issues of Social dialogue in Latvia
Round table on issues of Social dialogue in Latvia was held in LChrA in April 18, 2009. It was organized by EUROMF and attended by Secretary general Mr. Bruno Machiels. Participants of the round table Rector of the Academy Dr. Skaidrīte Gūtmane, Chairman of Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia Mr. Pēteris Krīgers, Vice-director of State Employment Agency Mrs. Anita Jākobsone, Chair person of the Department of Migration of Ministry of Internal affairs Mrs. Ilze Briede, the Head of the Financial committee of Latvian ev. luth. Church Rev. Artis Eglītis, Priest of Latvian Orthodox Church Oleg Pelevin. Discussions were focused around social policy in Latvia, social work and social services, as well as migration and social dialogue and its development in Latvia, which is tightly connected with one of the key study programmes at LChrA Christian social work.
CONFERENCE "Theology of Holy Trinity today and Icon painting"
In March 24, 2007, the Conference on Theology of Holy Trinity was held in the Parish house of St. John church was held, downtown Old Riga city. It was organized by LChrA and speakers from main traditional Christian denominations participated along with teachers and students of the Academy. The Conference was introduced by the Metropolitan of Latvian Orthodox Church HE Alexander. He emphasized that Icon painting shouldnt be looked upon as Russian Church art but rather taken as an ancient Byzantine tradition with its roots in first Christian centuries. However, the main task of Theology and Icon painting of Trinity is to experience the presence of Christ. Metropolitan praised investment of Latvian Christian Academy in promotion of Christian unity in Latvia. After the Conference the dedicated Icon painting exhibition was opened for public.
International conference TOLERANT ATTITUDE, TOLERANT ORGANIZATION, AND TOLERANT PEOPLE: PRACTICAL TOLERANCE
The conference was organized in September 8-9, 2006, by LChrA in cooperation with Latvian Social Dialogue Educational Centre, experts from EZA (European Center for Workers Questions), EUROFEDOP (European Federation for Workers in Social Services) and EUROMF (European Middle Field Organization). The gathered problems of identity and tolerance in the modern-day globalization process were analyzed. European Union has opened new perspectives for development of communitarian and positively tolerant society although migration of workforce has revealed clashes of diverse world views and convictions. Tolerance has become a stumbling block for many entrepreneurs, personnel managers being in contradiction with normative documents of EU and traditional views in society. Experts from EC Belgium, Flanders, Italy, as well as specialists from Norway and USA participated in discussions. Minister of Integration of Latvia Mrs. K.Pētersone also took part in the conference. Discussions were held by the former Director of Human Rights Office Dr. O.Brūveris and Rector of LChrA Dr. Skaidrīte Gūtmane.
International conference "Migration: Theological, Human rights and socio-economic aspects"
Latvian Christian Academy cooperates with EZA (European Center for Workers Questions) for three years, which permits to carry out various research and educational projects. EZA stands for promotion of successful social dialogue in the new member-states of EU. The conference organized by LChrA in cooperation with EZA was held in November 11, 2005 in Riga. Specialists in migration issues from Latvia participated in discussions. Rector of LChrA Dr. Skaidrīte Gūtmane analyzed migration issues from the Biblical perspective. International cONFERENCE "strategy for christian higher education in latvia"
Twelve years have passed since Latvian Christian Academy started its work. Celebrations and academic conference dedicated to the event was held in may 12-13, 2005, in Riga. The Conference was dedicated by cardinal of Roman Catholic Church HE Cardinal J.Pujats, representatives from Latvian Orthodox Church Fr. Alexander (Nagla) un Nils (Druvaskalns) and Archbishop of Latvian Evangelical Lutheran HE Jānis Vanags were also present. The Letter of appreciation was sent by President of Latvia Mrs. Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga. Proceedings of the Conference are published in the first volume of Writings of Latvian Christian Academy.
EZA work group meeting and conference in Jurmala
Latvian Christian Academy got involved in social dialogue matters on international level right after Latvian membership in EU, May 2004. Being coordinators on European level, the EZA networking organization welcomed LChrA as representative from Latvia. The first local meeting in Latvia was held in March 19, 2004 at Latvian Christian Academy.
